Gregory Aldisert has handled a wide variety of business and entertainment litigation. Mr. Aldisert has a reputation for litigating cases efficiently and positioning cases for early resolution. With that said, Mr. Aldisert has tried numerous cases and has a track record of outstanding results. He has represented PacifiCare, Newmarket Films, Fandango, DIC Entertainment, American Media, PaineWebber, Splendid Films GmbH and numerous other companies.
Mr. Aldisert co-tried the first Anna Nicole Smith trial against Pierce Marshall in United States Bankruptcy Court based on an interference with an inheritance claim. He obtained a judgment in the amount of $475 million on behalf of Ms. Smith, which was reportedly the largest single plaintiff judgment in the country in the year 2000.
Mr. Aldisert has handled numerous complex business litigation matters. He represented PaineWebber in connection with complex litigation stemming from a fairness opinion issued by PaineWebber regarding the value of real estate assets in connection with the sale of a business. He recently represented PacifiCare of Texas in a complex arbitration proceeding that lasted several months in Dallas. Although the bankrupt medical group claimant sought hundreds of millions in damages, it obtained an award that barely exceeded its attorneys' fees. He is currently representing PacifiCare of Arizona in an arbitration pending in Phoenix involving a health services agreement with another failed medical group.
Mr. Aldisert has successfully defended several class action lawsuits based on alleged violations of various consumer protection statutes. He successfully represented The Sports Club Company in class suits alleging violations of the Contracts for Health Studio Services Act, the Unruh Act and the Consumer Legal Remedies Act. He successfully represented One World Network Integrated Technology in a class action alleging a violation of Business & Professions Code §17200 for unfair business practices. He recently represented Oakwood Worldwide in a class action alleging violations of the Investigative Consumer Reporting Agencies Act.
Mr. Aldisert has a broad range of business litigation experience. He has handled several legal malpractice, conflicts of interest and malicious prosecution cases. Among the law firms he has represented are Ziffren, Brittenham & Branca, Greenberg Glusker and Wehner & Perlman. He has also handled several trade secret cases involving former employees taking confidential information. Mr. Aldisert has defended numerous sexual harassment and wrongful termination cases on behalf of business owners, executives and celebrities. He has also handled several real estate cases involving residential and commercial property.
Mr. Aldisert has represented several studios, including Miramax Films, Warner Bros. and RKO Pictures, and various producers in connection with copyright infringement and idea theft claims. He obtained injunctive relief on behalf of RKO Pictures against a distributor of a pirated version of the motion picture Shade. He also obtained injunctive relief on behalf of the producers of the documentary Waco: The Rules Of Engagement against the director who sought to distribute another version of the controversial film. He successfully defended Gold Coast Television Entertainment, the executive producers of Blind Date, against idea theft claims.
He recently obtained a substantial arbitration award on behalf of Newmarket Films against Mel Gibson's company, Icon Distributions, in connection with Newmarket's distribution of The Passion Of The Christ. He also obtained the dismissal of a cross-complaint filed by Regal Cinemas against Newmarket relating to the film rental for The Passion Of The Christ. He also represented the German distributor Splendid Films GmbH in a dispute with the producer Gold Circle regarding the German distribution rights to My Big Fat Greek Wedding. He has handled several Independent Film and Television Alliance (formerly American Film Market Association) arbitrations, primarily for foreign distributors in Latin America.
Mr. Aldisert has handled several defamation and false light cases, successfully representing the reporter Wayne Satz who was sued by Peggy McMartin and Raymond Buckey based on his coverage of the child molestation investigation. He recently represented the National Enquirer in a lawsuit filed by actress Ashley Olsen.
Mr. Aldisert has handled numerous music litigation matters, including band disputes involving The Eagles, The Doors, Three Dog Night and Guns 'N Roses, and disputes between musical artists and record companies and publications companies.
Mr. Aldisert is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (B.S. 1981 Phi Beta Kappa ) and the University of California, Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law (J.D. 1984).
